Eating disorder treatment centers offer anorexia treatment, and treatment for many other types of disordered eating. How does an eating disorder clinic manage recovery for anorexics, bulimics and others?

Eating disorder treatment centers help anorexic girls, boys, men and women by challenging and promoting healthy body image and self esteem.

Anorexia and eating disorders in general are highly complicated and widely misunderstood by the majority of the population - and sadly, even some physicians.

In the case of anorexia nervosa, regular hospitals tend to put too much emphasis on weight gain - even going so far as to punish the patient (by taking away privileges) for not meeting set weight requirements.

While weight gain is certainly necessary for recovery, it needs to handled delicately - and hopefully be someone who has experience working with anorexics.

Although the hearts of hospital workers may in the right place, the problem is that the unique mindset of the anorexic is either ignored or it's completely misunderstood. Anorexia is often viewed as more of a behavioral problem than a mental or brain disorder.

Benefits of Eating Disorder Treatment Centers

One of the main benefits of residential eating disorder treatment is that the staff is specially trained, and they often have years of experience in anorexia treatment centers, and treatment experience with other types of disordered eating.

As far as I know, there isn't a decent eating disorder clinic around that will force someone to focus on their own weight gain. After all, isn't the stress of obsessing about weight one of the things that got the patient to treatment in the first place?

During treatment for anorexia nervosa, most facilities will monitor your weight for you. In fact, they don't even let you see the numbers.

In some ways this brings on a new set of issues and frustrations, but in the long run, it's a relief to not have to worry about it.
