Mary Kate Olsen Anorexia / Eating Disorder
How "Full Houses's 'Michelle' " Battled Anorexia

For Mary Kate Olsen anorexia was kept under wraps for some time. She is arguably one of the most well-known people with eating disorders. But, when anorexia symptoms began to appear before the age 20, the public and media alike began to speculate the causes of her eating disorder.

In 2004, rumors and reports began to surface about a 'Mary-Kate Olsen eating disorder'.

At first they didn't specifically refer to it as anorexia or any other eating disorder. They called it a "health disorder".

It's not clear if the statement was a form of denial, which often happens with anorexia sufferers - and even their families. Or, was it simply a matter of privacy?

Anorexic celebrities have a unique battle because there seems to be a media fascination with eating disorders. Once the speculation begins, it doesn't seem to let up.

At a later date, there was confirmation from the "Olsen Camp" that yes, Mary-Kate Olsen's anorexia was out of control, and she was seeking treatment.

The high profile illness prompted much discussion in the media, and once again raised the question, what causes anorexia?

It all started when Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen shared a role on television as Full House's "Michelle", a hit television series that began its run in the late 1980's.

Mary-Kate Olsen is the fraternal twin sister of Ashley Olsen. Although they look amazingly like identical twins, they are not. They were born on June 13, 1986 in Sherman Oaks, CA.

The girls have been living in the public eye for virtually their entire lives.

Hired at the tender age of 6 months, we've all watched them grow into beautiful young women, never suspecting that either one of them would develop symptoms of anorexia nervosa.

The Olsen twins were not even 10 years old when they formed their own company called, "Dualstar". It was undoubtedly built on the success of their role on Full House.

The company was created to produce films and to merchandise the girls' image. Aimed at the pre-teen market, several direct-to-video movies were made, as well as dolls, magazines, clothes, posters - and just about everything but the kitchen sink ;)

Obviously Mary-Kate was silently suffering during this time, but it's not clear if anyone close to her noticed any signs of anorexia.

Mary Kate Olsen Anorexia - Eating Disorder Symptoms

Public concerns about Mary Kate Olsen's anorexia surfaced during a public appearance in 2004 where she and her sister received their star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

Photos of an emaciated Mary Kate began show up in tabloids and newspapers everywhere - an indication of the anorexia nervosa effects that she was enduring.

Speculation was also running rampant that drug use was contributing to her medical condition, but this was vehemently denied by her publicist, and sister Ashley.

These days Mary-Kate Olsen's anorexia seems to be under control. Apparently she has been doing quite well recovering from anorexia.

Even though it's several years later, the question is still being asked - Where did Mary Kate go for anorexia nervosa treatment?
