Sara Westbrook is one of the best Canadian singers, songwriters, and motivational speakers. Her upbeat 'UPower® Concerts - Building Character Through Lyrics' is her own creation, and her shows continually inspire youth and adults around the globe.
Sara Westbrook's musical career began at the tender age of 8 when she started taking singing lessons and entering talent competitions.
By 11 years old, she was a paid performer at local dinner theaters, and enrolled in various motivational courses.
These proved to be the foundation and cornerstone for surviving several traumatic experiences in her life -- including the death of her father, and the development of an eating disorder.
In spite of the pain, and through much soul searching, Sara was able to dig deep and come the realization that, although she could not control other people's actions, or the events in her life, she could most certainly control how she reacted.
"It’s not about what happens to you, it’s about who you choose to become from those circumstances."
- Sara Westbrook
This mind set is at the very core of every song Sara writes, and every word she speaks at her many engagements throughout Canada, the United States, Ireland, Romania, and Greece.
Sara Westbrook reminds us all of the strength that we have within ourselves -- our "You Power" (or "UPower"®) -- that is, the ability to change our ways of thinking and not let life's burdens defeat us or keep us down.
Some time ago, Sara shared her personal story on this site in some detail. You can read it here. (Learning To Love Yourself).
Sara Westbrook's newest song, At War With Myself is now on sale at iTunes. Its lyrics are powerful and important as it describes the feelings that many people experience if they are suffering from an eating disorder and/or body image problems.

Music - Ian Smith
Verse 1:
A pretty girl on the cover of a magazine
So perfect
That’s what we see
I wanna be
But I’ll never be that perfect
Pre-Chorus:
‘Cause look at me, how could I be
Anything you’d wanna see
Judging, comparing, weighing, changing
Chorus:
We are -- We are
Don’t wanna be
Don’t wanna live at war with myself
We are at war with ourselves
Verse 2:
Jean shopping can be too much to bear
Wish I was one of those people
Who just didn’t care
Who are these jeans made for anyway
They’ll fit me one day
... If I’m starving
Repeat Pre-Chorus
Repeat Chorus
Bridge:
I know it’s hard
Trying to live up to an image
That no one can.
Maybe it’s time, maybe it’s time - to be me
Repeat Chorus
I am more than my body, more than you see.
